Donald Trump Praises PM Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan at UNGA

Former United States President Donald Trump delivered a speech at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Tuesday, where he commended Pakistan and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Trump referred to Pakistan as a “great country” and called the prime minister a “terrific” man, stating that Shehbaz Sharif had recently called him to express gratitude for the United States' assistance in a matter important to Pakistan.

According to Trump, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif thanked him for his role in ending a conflict between Pakistan and India in May 2025, a move which Trump claimed helped save 30 million lives.

During his address, Trump also said that his interventions had 'settled eight wars.' He shifted to other topics, including the ongoing conflict with Iran, reiterating his hardline stance. Trump warned that if a deal is not reached with Iran, he would consider severe action and described current economic measures as a means to pressure Iran to negotiate.

Trump discussed artificial intelligence, rejecting the idea of international oversight, calling such proposals a "globalist scheme" aimed at controlling technology. He announced that the US government would use the term “super intelligence” instead of “artificial intelligence” in all future communications.

He also commented on regional issues, calling Mexico the "epicentre of cartel violence" and stating that significant changes were underway in US policy toward Cuba. Members of the Cuban delegation reportedly left the hall in response to his comments on Cuba.

Trump closed his speech by renewing criticism of the United Nations and international organizations such as the International Criminal Court, declaring that US personnel would not be held accountable by external tribunals.
