Finance Minister Outlines Pakistan's Move to Regulated Virtual Assets

Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, has drawn attention to Pakistan's shift towards a regulated framework for virtual assets. He made these remarks during his opening address at the 'United Nations Digital Cooperation Day 2026 – Blockchain and the Tokenized Future: Sovereign Choices and Safeguards for Next-Gen DPI' held in New York.
During his speech, Aurangzeb noted that the adoption of tokenization should address tangible economic demands. He highlighted key priorities such as enabling lower-cost remittances, improving SME financing, sovereign debt management, and expanding access to financial services.
The Finance Minister also underlined the importance of maintaining a balance between encouraging private-sector innovation and ensuring robust state oversight. He called for strong state safeguards, the development of inclusive digital infrastructure, and active international collaboration.
Aurangzeb further emphasized that developing economies should play an active role in forming global standards regarding virtual assets, ensuring their unique needs and perspectives are considered.
