The Margalla Avenue Extension project in Islamabad is on track to be completed within the coming weeks, ahead of its official April deadline, according to Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. The minister made the announcement during a late-night inspection of the construction site near Sangjani on Thursday.
Naqvi said the planned interchange would improve traffic flow and make travel easier for commuters arriving from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as well as for passengers heading to Islamabad International Airport. The CDA chairman, the Islamabad Inspector General of Police and senior technical officials joined the minister on the visit.
During the inspection, the CDA chairman briefed Naqvi on the project's progress and the construction work under way. Current activities at the site include piling for the proposed interchange bridge, foundation excavation, and the construction of retaining and abutment walls.
Crews are also carrying out earthwork and preparing the road's sub-base. In addition, the authority is relocating utility lines and clearing construction areas so that work can resume in sections previously affected by land-related and technical issues.
The extension is intended to improve traffic movement and strengthen connectivity between the federal capital and the motorway network. Officials say the new interchange should particularly benefit travellers coming from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and those making their way to the airport.
