The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has launched solid waste management services in Islamabad's Zones IV and V, marking the first extension of formal sanitation coverage to rural and suburban communities in these areas. The initiative aims to improve waste collection in regions that previously lacked organized services.
The service will cover approximately 484 square kilometers and serve more than 1.1 million residents. To support the operation, the CDA has allocated 1,550 workers and 103 vehicles and machinery units, according to an official announcement.
Areas covered include Bhara Kahu, Bani Gala, Tramri, Lehtrar Road, Shahzad Town, Humak, Sehala, Lohi Bhair, Kirpa, Rawat, Gagri, and adjoining localities, as well as private housing societies. The initiative spans 65 union councils, primarily in Zones IV and V.
The CDA has awarded the contract to a Turkish company, which will collect, transport and dispose of approximately 342 tonnes of waste daily using trained staff and specialized equipment. The authority described the move as a step toward equal services for every citizen.
The initiative was launched on the directions of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi under the leadership of CDA Chairman Sohail Ashraf. The expansion is expected to enhance sanitation infrastructure and public health in the capital's suburban areas.
