Pakistani Rupee Extends Winning Streak Against US Dollar for 278th Straight Session
The rupee closed at 276.66 against the dollar on Friday, gaining one paisa and continuing a months-long run of stability, while also strengthening against several major currencies.

The Pakistani rupee continued its extended run of stability against the US dollar on Friday, closing at 276.66 after a marginal gain of one paisa, according to market data. The movement marks the 278th consecutive trading session in which the local currency has ended flat or stronger against the dollar.
The current streak of steady or improving sessions has been in place since late December 2025, reflecting a prolonged period of relative calm in the interbank market. Traders have pointed to a more balanced flow of foreign exchange and sustained remittance inflows as factors supporting the currency's recent performance.
Gains were more pronounced against several other major currencies. The rupee appreciated by Rs. 2.2 against the British pound, Rs. 3.82 against the Australian dollar, Rs. 1.55 against the euro and Rs. 1.63 against the Canadian dollar over the same period.
Against regional currencies, the rupee edged up by one paisa against the UAE dirham and held steady against the Saudi riyal, two currencies closely tied to remittance flows from Pakistani workers in the Gulf.
The sustained stability offers some relief for importers and consumers, as a steadier rupee helps contain the cost of imported goods and energy. Analysts caution, however, that the currency's longer-term direction will continue to depend on export earnings, remittance levels and the broader balance-of-payments position.
Businesses and households alike will be watching whether the current trend holds in the coming weeks, with market participants describing the rupee's performance as a key indicator of confidence in the country's external accounts.
