PCB Set to Appoint Shane Deitz as Pakistan Women's Team Head Coach
Former West Indies women's head coach Shane Deitz is the leading candidate to take charge of Pakistan's women's cricket team as the PCB reshapes its coaching setup ahead of the West Indies tour.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is preparing to appoint a foreign head coach for the national women's cricket team, with former West Indies women's team head coach Shane Deitz emerging as the leading candidate, according to reports. The move signals a significant restructuring of the coaching setup currently associated with former Pakistan fast bowler Wahab Riaz.
Deitz, a 51-year-old former Australian cricketer, recently concluded a three-year tenure with the West Indies women's side after his contract expired on October 31. He opted not to extend the arrangement, with both parties mutually agreeing to part ways. Cricket West Indies subsequently named former men's team head coach Andre Coley as interim head coach of the women's team.
According to the reports, Deitz is expected to assume his new responsibilities ahead of Pakistan's scheduled tour of the West Indies in mid-December, though Cricket West Indies has yet to officially announce the schedule for the bilateral series.
The coaching transition follows a period in which Wahab Riaz served as consultant and mentor to the Pakistan women's team, working alongside former international cricketers Abdur Rehman, Imran Farhat and Umaid Asif. His role centred on player development, fitness improvement and tactical preparation through high-performance training camps.
Following Pakistan's campaign at the ICC Women's T20 World Cup in June 2026, Riaz identified game awareness, tactical execution and handling pressure as key areas requiring improvement, while also acknowledging the potential of emerging players in the squad.
The appointment of an experienced foreign coach would represent a notable step in the PCB's efforts to strengthen the women's side as it prepares for international commitments, including the anticipated series against the West Indies.
