Prime Minister Shehbaz Arrives in New York for UNGA Session

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in New York late Monday in preparation for his participation in the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

The Foreign Office spokesperson stated that the prime minister will present Pakistan's stance on India's actions in Kashmir and discuss the Palestinian issue during his address to the UNGA. In addition to these topics, he will elaborate on Pakistan’s priorities concerning sustainable development, climate change, counterterrorism, Islamophobia, global economic challenges, UN reforms, and matters impacting the Global South.

Prime Minister Shehbaz is scheduled to attend high-level events and is expected to hold bilateral meetings with several world leaders and the UN Secretary-General. These engagements will allow him to highlight Pakistan’s commitment to multilateralism, the principles of the United Nations Charter, regional peace, and international cooperation.

The Pakistani delegation includes Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, as well as federal ministers and senior government officials.

The official theme for the 81st session of the UNGA is ‘Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations That Delivers for All.’ The general debate will occur from September 22 to 26, with the concluding sitting set for September 28.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to deliver his address to the 81st UNGA session on September 25.
