University of Karachi Opens One-Month Research Internship for MBBS and BDS Students
The Dr. Panjwani Center for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research will host a four-week unpaid research internship in December 2026 across nine fields, including AI in health sciences, genomics and virology, with applications due by November 10, 2026.

The University of Karachi has invited applications from medical and dental students for a one-month research internship scheduled to run from December 1 to 31, 2026, with the submission window closing on November 10, 2026. The program will be hosted by the Dr. Panjwani Center for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research (PCMD), a constituent of the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS).
According to the official advertisement, the internship is designed to introduce MBBS and BDS students to scientific research and to build practical skills in molecular and cellular studies. Selected candidates will spend four weeks working alongside researchers in different sections of the center, gaining exposure to laboratory-based investigation that complements their clinical training.
The institute has clarified that the internship is unpaid and that participants will not receive any financial compensation. Placement in specific research sections will be decided by PCMD based on its internal arrangements, the advertisement states.
The curriculum is structured around core research competencies. Participants are expected to learn how to frame research questions, apply suitable research methods and critically assess research findings. The program's scientific focus covers human diseases, including their diagnosis, treatment and prevention, with particular attention to conditions that place a heavy burden on Pakistan's population.
Opportunities are available across nine research areas: Artificial Intelligence in Health Sciences, Bioequivalence Studies, Genomics, Immunology and Microbiology, Molecular and Structural Biology, Pharmacology, Proteomics, Stem Cell Research and Virology. The inclusion of AI in health sciences reflects the growing role of data-driven tools in diagnostics and drug discovery.
PCMD's work centres on molecular medicine and drug development, and the internship is intended to encourage medical and dental students to cultivate an interest in research alongside their clinical education. Students interested in applying can consult the official advertisement for eligibility details and submission instructions before the November 10 deadline.
