NCCIA Issues Advisory Warning Citizens Against Online Investment Scams Promising Quick Profits
Pakistan's National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency has cautioned citizens that online investment schemes offering unusually high returns are often frauds, and has published five verification steps for anyone considering such platforms.

The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has issued a public advisory warning citizens that online investment schemes promising unusually high or rapid returns are frequently scams built to drain people's savings. In a notice shared on X, the agency discouraged the public from gambling their savings on offers of daily profits or overnight wealth, noting that such platforms can be fraudulent and often result in permanent financial loss.
The advisory urges prospective investors to conduct thorough research and verify any platform's legitimacy before committing money. The NCCIA outlined five recommended steps for users to follow before putting funds into an online investment service, part of an effort to encourage caution in a market where fraudulent offers circulate widely.
According to the agency, fake investment offers are among the most common tactics employed by cybercriminals operating in Pakistan. Earlier this year, the NCCIA dismantled a call centre that was being used to run investment and e-commerce scams, underscoring how organised these operations have become.
Beyond warnings, the agency has been conducting awareness sessions at schools and colleges focused on one-time password (OTP) scams and online fraud. These sessions form part of a broader campaign to instil safe digital habits among younger users, who are often prime targets for cybercriminals.
The advisory reflects growing official concern over financial cybercrime as more Pakistanis transact online. Citizens are advised to treat unsolicited investment offers with suspicion, confirm a platform's registration and track record, and report suspected fraud to the authorities rather than engaging further with the promoters.
