Xiaomi is reportedly developing a new smartphone with a wide-screen design, according to a leak from well-known Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station. The tipster hinted on Weibo that an Android manufacturer is testing a wide-screen candybar phone, and an emoji in the post suggested Xiaomi could be the company behind it. The device is expected to feature a wider display with a 16:10 or 16:9 aspect ratio, similar to Huawei’s Pura X View.

Unlike foldable smartphones, the rumored device will use a conventional, non-folding design. The leak also indicates that the phone will have a side-mounted fingerprint scanner instead of an under-display sensor. The wider screen would give the phone a noticeably different appearance from most current smartphones, which typically have taller and narrower displays.

The tipster did not reveal key specifications such as display size, processor, camera details, battery capacity, or launch date. Xiaomi has not officially confirmed that it is working on such a device. The report follows the introduction of similar wide-screen phones from Huawei and other Chinese manufacturers, suggesting a potential trend toward broader displays.

Xiaomi is not alone in exploring this form factor. Oppo is also rumored to be developing a wide-screen smartphone under its Reno lineup. Earlier leaks suggest that Oppo’s device could feature a 6.35-inch display, an 8,000mAh battery, dual 200MP rear cameras, and MediaTek’s Dimensity 9600M chipset.

While the details remain unconfirmed, the rumored Xiaomi phone could signal a shift toward wider aspect ratios in the smartphone market, offering users a different viewing experience for media and multitasking. However, without official confirmation, these reports should be treated as speculation for now.
