The National Information Technology Board is building a digital portal for FEB&GIF that will let federal employees and their beneficiaries apply for welfare grants, verify identity through CNIC and biometric authentication, and track claims in real time.

Federal government employees and their beneficiaries will soon be able to apply for welfare grants and follow the progress of their claims online, as the National Information Technology Board (NITB) develops a dedicated digital portal for the Federal Employees Benevolent and Group Insurance Funds (FEB&GIF). The platform is intended to replace the current manual application process with digital services, including real-time claim tracking and automated processing, according to an Information Technology Ministry document.

The project was set in motion when the Board of Trustees of FEB&GIF approved engaging NITB during its 131st meeting on March 4, 2026. The funds subsequently brought the Board on board, and the two organizations have since finalized the portal's design. The platform is currently under development and will be opened to beneficiaries after development, testing and deployment are complete.

According to the plan, users will be able to submit applications online, verify their identities through CNIC and biometric authentication, receive notifications about application status and monitor claims in real time. The system will also feature a centralized beneficiary services platform, automated digital processing, management reports and monitoring tools aimed at improving transparency and oversight.

The move comes as FEB&GIF handles a steady volume of welfare claims. The funds received 8,637 applications under five schemes during the current financial year through August 31, 2026. Of these, 7,231 claims had been processed or settled, while another 1,406 remained pending. The applications covered marriage grants, farewell grants, educational stipends, fee reimbursements and monthly benevolent grants.

Under existing standard operating procedures, the funds require 45 days to settle complete welfare claims, while applications facing objections are processed once the required documents or additional information are submitted. The ministry document states that if NITB fails to deliver the portal within the agreed timeframe, its requirements will be folded into a proposed end-to-end Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) project to ensure beneficiary services are automated.

FEB&GIF is already moving ahead with procurement of a customized, web-based integrated ERP system covering human resource management, investment management, finance and accounts, contribution collection, online applications, workflow automation and beneficiary services. The shift toward digital processing is expected to reduce paperwork and give applicants clearer visibility over where their claims stand.
