The Punjab Education, Curriculum, Training and Assessment Authority (PECTAA) has officially notified a revised Smart Syllabus for Class 9 students for the 2026-27 academic session, which will apply to the 2027 annual board examinations. The notification, issued on November 6, 2026, sets out an Accelerated Learning Program (ALP) that trims selected topics, exercises and chapters so that students can complete their coursework within the academic calendar.
The decision was approved by the Academics Committee at its 13th meeting on November 5, 2026, and the revised syllabus will be implemented throughout Punjab. Alongside the reduced content, the approved program includes updated pairing schemes and model papers intended to guide both students and teachers during preparation.
Under the revised syllabus, the authority has removed selected material from several subjects. In Mathematics, the entire chapter on Logic has been excluded, while Biology students will no longer study the Biostatistics chapter. For Chemistry, two complete chapters have been dropped: Empirical Data Collection and Analysis, and Laboratory and Practical Skills.
The Class 9 compulsory English syllabus has also been trimmed, with three units removed. According to the notification, English teachers should concentrate on the remaining eight units, and examination papers must not include questions drawn from the excluded units. Reductions have also been specified for other subjects, including Physics, Urdu and Islamic Studies, as detailed in the official document.
The revised syllabus will apply to all nine Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISEs) in Punjab, covering Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Sahiwal, Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan and Bahawalpur. Students preparing for the 2027 examinations under these boards will be assessed on the reduced course, and schools are expected to align their teaching plans with the new pairing schemes and model papers.
The move is likely to be closely followed by students, parents and teachers across the province, who will want clarity on which chapters remain part of the assessment. PECTAA has indicated that full details of the deletions and the accompanying examination framework are contained in the official notification.
