A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) engineer was shot dead by unidentified gunmen riding a motorcycle in Karachi's Gulistan-e-Jauhar area on Sunday afternoon, in what police suspect was a targeted attack.

The victim was identified as 54-year-old Imtiaz Ahmed, who had stepped out of his home in Block 13 to buy bread when the attackers opened fire and fled the scene, according to Sharea Faisal SHO Anser Ahmed Butt.

Police said the assailants fired multiple shots. Three rounds struck a parked car nearby, while one bullet hit Ahmed and proved fatal. He was rushed to a private hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. His body was later moved to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a post-mortem examination.

Authorities have ruled out robbery as a motive, though the reason behind the killing remains unclear. The SHO said Ahmed was originally from Lahore and that police had contacted his brother, who was travelling to Karachi. Formal proceedings to determine the motive and identify the attackers are expected to begin after his arrival.

Ahmed's wife was in Germany at the time of the incident, visiting their daughter, according to police. No group has claimed responsibility for the shooting, and investigators have not named any suspects.

The killing adds to concerns over targeted violence in Karachi, Pakistan's largest city and commercial hub. Further details are expected as police continue their investigation.
