Punjab Announces Four-Subject Exam for Class 8, Holistic Assessment for Class 5

Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has announced the assessment arrangements for students in Grades 5 and 8, detailing how examinations and evaluations will be conducted across the province. The minister shared the information in an official statement.

According to the announcement, Grade 8 students will sit examinations covering four major subjects, following the same format used in the previous cycle. The papers will be conducted on e-sheets, and online screen marking will be used to ensure transparency in the checking process.

Grade 5 students, by contrast, will not take a conventional examination. Instead, they will undergo a holistic assessment designed to evaluate their learning more broadly. The minister said the assessment would follow a fair and transparent process.

The use of e-sheets and screen marking reflects a continuing shift toward digital evaluation methods in Punjab's school system, aimed at reducing manual errors and improving accountability in results.

The announcement comes as education authorities work to standardise assessment practices across primary and middle levels in the province. Further details on schedules and procedures are expected to be communicated to schools in due course.
