The federal government has announced another reduction in fuel prices, cutting the rate of motor spirit (MS) petrol by Rs. 6.59 per litre to Rs. 346 per litre. High-speed diesel (HSD) has also been made cheaper by Rs. 4.25 per litre, bringing its price down to Rs. 378 per litre. The new rates were confirmed through an official notification and apply for the next three days.
This marks the fifth consecutive sharp reduction in fuel prices this week. It is also the first time since September 4 that petrol has fallen below the Rs. 350 per litre threshold, offering some relief to consumers after a prolonged period of high fuel costs.
The latest cut follows Thursday's reduction, when petrol was lowered by Rs. 9.41 per litre to Rs. 352.59 per litre and diesel by Rs. 5.56 per litre to Rs. 382.25 per litre. The back-to-back decreases reflect the ongoing adjustment of domestic rates in line with the daily fuel rate mechanism.
Despite the recent downward trend, fuel prices remain significantly higher than when the daily rate updates began. According to official figures, petrol has risen by Rs. 35.29 per litre and diesel by Rs. 54.7 per litre since the introduction of the daily pricing system.
The continued fall in fuel prices is expected to ease pressure on transport costs and household budgets, particularly for commuters and businesses that rely heavily on diesel for logistics and operations. Consumers will be watching closely to see whether the downward trend continues in the coming days.
