The Karachi Traffic Police has announced stricter enforcement of seat belt regulations, issuing a warning to both drivers and front-seat passengers across the city. The move comes as part of an effort to improve road safety and reduce traffic-related injuries. According to DSP Traffic, authorities will now penalize not only drivers but also front-seat passengers who fail to fasten their seat belts. This marks a significant tightening of previous rules, emphasizing that everyone in the vehicle is responsible for complying with traffic safety laws. In addition, authorities will now recover any fines that were previously waived if a driver commits a second traffic violation. Repeated offenders will no longer be granted leniency, signaling a zero-tolerance approach toward habitual violators. The DSP also noted that the traffic department currently lacks access to vehicle registration records from other provinces, making it challenging to track out-of-province vehicles. He further highlighted a rise in complaints regarding vehicles using fake number plates, prompting increased monitoring and stricter action against such cases. These measures reflect Karachi Traffic Police’s renewed focus on road discipline, ensuring that drivers and passengers adhere to safety regulations to reduce accidents and enhance overall traffic management in the city.
