The Punjab Safe City Authority (PSCA) has rolled out a cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) system designed to detect fake, tampered, and cloned vehicle number plates across the province. This automated system allows authorities to identify illegal modifications in real time, including counterfeit plates, altered registrations, or numbers copied from other vehicles.
According to officials, the AI system is integrated with Safe City surveillance cameras, enabling instant recognition of fraudulent number plates. Once a violation is detected, an alert is automatically generated and sent to the Safe City Virtual Patrolling Officer. The Virtual Patrolling Officer then coordinates with the field enforcement team, who are dispatched immediately to the location to take legal action against the offender.
Authorities have issued a strict warning that no leniency will be shown for such offenses. Individuals caught using fake or tampered number plates will face not only traffic challans but also criminal charges under sections 420, 468, 471, and 171 of the law, which cover fraud, forgery, and the use of false documents. These measures underscore the seriousness with which the PSCA treats vehicle-related fraud.
The initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance road safety, enforce traffic regulations, and curb illegal activities on the province’s roads. Citizens have been advised to ensure that only legally issued and original number plates are installed on their vehicles to avoid penalties and legal complications. The deployment of this AI-powered system marks a significant step toward modernizing law enforcement and leveraging technology to ensure compliance with vehicle registration laws in Punjab.
