Meta has taken a landmark step in accelerating Pakistan’s digital transformation by launching its artificial intelligence assistant, Meta AI, in Urdu. This development marks a significant stride toward making cutting-edge technology more inclusive and accessible for millions of Urdu-speaking users, aligning with the country’s broader goals of digital empowerment and innovation.
The announcement was made during the “Future in Focus: AI and Innovation” event, organized in partnership with the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT). The initiative reflects Meta’s long-term commitment to strengthening Pakistan’s digital ecosystem through education, capacity building, and collaboration with public institutions.
With the rollout of Urdu support, users in Pakistan can now engage with Meta AI in both English and Urdu, enabling a more intuitive, localized, and personalized experience. Meta emphasized that the integration of Urdu is part of its mission to remove language barriers and make technology more relatable to people’s daily lives.
Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, praised the initiative as a key milestone in realizing the Prime Minister’s Digital Pakistan Vision. She noted that bringing Urdu into AI interactions will help ensure digital inclusivity, allowing citizens across all regions and backgrounds to participate in the technology-driven economy.
Sarim Aziz, Meta’s Director of Public Policy for South and Central Asia, highlighted that the company is actively working with government bodies and universities to integrate AI tools effectively. “The availability of Meta AI in Urdu will help local communities connect with technology in a more meaningful way,” he stated.
To further support AI adoption and capacity development, Meta also launched several key initiatives. Among them is the AI Literacy Programme, launched in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission (HEC), the National Computing Education Accreditation Council (NCEAC), MoITT, and atomcamp. The program aims to train 350 university teachers across Pakistan in AI fundamentals, ensuring that educators are equipped to guide the next generation of innovators.
Additionally, Meta introduced the Government Digital Transformation Xperience (GDTX) 2025 — a program designed to help public institutions adopt advanced digital tools, streamline operations, and align with international best practices.
Through these efforts, Meta is positioning itself as a key partner in Pakistan’s digital evolution — fostering AI literacy, enhancing accessibility, and driving innovation that connects communities in their native language while supporting the nation’s vision for a smarter, more inclusive digital future.
