Pakistan is making a major stride toward unlocking its estimated $6 trillion in untapped mineral reserves with the inauguration of the Geoscience Advanced Research Laboratories in Chak Shahzad, Islamabad. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif opened the state-of-the-art facility, marking a significant milestone for the nation’s mining and exploration sector.

The upgraded Geological Survey of Pakistan (GSP) laboratories, now ISO-certified, feature advanced technology designed to produce accurate, internationally recognized geological data. This modernization is expected to enhance transparency, attract global investment, and drive industrial growth by providing reliable insights into the country’s vast mineral potential.

Originally established in 1999 and fully revamped after nearly three decades, the new research facility will play a key role in identifying deposits of copper, gold, lithium, and rare earth elements — resources critical to the global transition toward clean energy and high-tech manufacturing.

This development signals Pakistan’s growing commitment to transforming its natural wealth into sustainable economic progress. By combining modern research infrastructure with data-driven exploration, the country is moving closer to realizing a dynamic and globally competitive mining industry.
