Donald Trump Renames U.S. Institute of Peace Ahead of Africa Peace Talks

U.S. President Donald Trump has officially renamed the United States Institute of Peace in Washington, D.C., to the Donald J. Trump Institute of Peace. The announcement comes ahead of Trump hosting leaders from Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo for a U.S.-brokered peace agreement.

Trump expressed gratitude to the State Department for adding his name to the institute, calling it a “great honor.” The renaming follows the Trump administration’s earlier takeover of the nonprofit, which prompted legal challenges regarding governance and oversight.

Although the institute continues to operate as an independent nonprofit rather than a federal agency, the name change is intended to underscore Trump’s claimed contributions to global peace initiatives and his role in promoting diplomatic efforts internationally.
