Punjab Transporters Stage Wheel-Jam Strike Across Multiple Cities Over Heavy E-Fines and Vehicle Seizures

Transporters across multiple cities in Punjab observed a widespread wheel-jam strike on Monday to protest heavy e-fines and vehicle seizures, disrupting both goods and public transport services. The strike was announced by the Transporters Grand Alliance during a press conference, with officials warning that vehicles would remain off the roads until their demands were addressed.

In Faisalabad, the strike brought major transport hubs—including bus stands, wagon depots, and truck terminals—to a standstill, leaving thousands of passengers stranded. Commuters faced long delays and struggled to find alternative transport as most vehicles remained parked. A similar shutdown occurred in Rawalpindi, where local and public transport operators suspended services in response to fines issued by traffic authorities.

The strike also disrupted daily routines, halting school, college, and university pick-up and drop-off services, while significantly reducing city traffic and causing inconvenience to residents. In Okara, transporters joined the protest, parking vehicles at stands and vowing to continue the strike until the government addressed their concerns.

Transport representatives stated that the number and amount of fines imposed were beyond their capacity to pay and urged authorities to revise the e-fine system and provide relief. They also warned that protests would continue unless their demands were met, highlighting the growing tension between transport operators and regulatory authorities over enforcement policies.
