Turkiye, a long-standing defense partner of Pakistan, is currently engaged in co-production of corvette warships and has successfully upgraded dozens of Pakistan’s F-16 fighter jets. Building on this defense cooperation, there is growing public and strategic interest in Islamabad joining Turkiye’s KAAN fifth-generation fighter program.
The KAAN initiative is focused on developing an advanced stealth fighter jet featuring cutting-edge avionics, sophisticated radar systems, and superior maneuverability. The program emphasizes indigenous production capabilities, technological innovation, and strengthening national defense readiness. It is also designed to encourage international collaboration, allowing partner countries to contribute expertise and benefit from shared technological advancements.
Defense officials note that Pakistan’s involvement in the KAAN program could significantly enhance bilateral strategic ties, provide access to next-generation fighter technology, and contribute to the development of a modern, domestically supported air combat platform. Such participation would not only advance Pakistan’s defense capabilities but also position the country as a key player in regional aerospace innovation.
