SNGPL Announces Winter Gas Schedule for Punjab and KP Amid Expected Price Hike

Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has announced a revised winter gas schedule for households in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, implementing three daily supply windows from December through February. According to SNGPL officials, gas will be available from 5:30 am to 8:30 am, 11:30 am to 1:30 pm, and 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Families are advised to plan meals, such as breakfast and lunch preparations, during these designated hours to ensure uninterrupted household usage.

The company confirmed that industrial consumers will not experience gas load-shedding under this revised plan. Officials noted that although winter demand has risen sharply, sufficient gas remains in the system. Consumers are urged to use gas responsibly, as it is a costly resource, and household usage should be limited to essential needs.

In parallel, gas prices across Pakistan are expected to rise as both SNGPL and Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) have submitted petitions to the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) seeking significant tariff hikes for the 2025–26 financial year. SNGPL has requested an increase of Rs189 per MMBTU, while SSGC has sought a rise of Rs125.41 per MMBTU. OGRA has scheduled hearings for these petitions on November 7 for SNGPL and November 11 for SSGC to assess their financial justifications before making a decision.

SNGPL has proposed an average prescribed gas price of Rs1,955.50 per MMBTU, citing a projected financial requirement of over Rs52.95 billion for the coming fiscal year. The company also reported an estimated shortfall of Rs582 million under the LPG Air Mix subsidy program. SSGC has requested an average prescribed gas price of Rs1,658.56 per MMBTU, projecting financial needs exceeding Rs24 billion and seeking recovery of Rs34.25 billion to offset past losses. These developments highlight the growing pressures on Pakistan’s gas sector amid rising winter demand and increasing operational costs.
