Abdul Aleem Khan Announces Strict Vehicle Fitness Checks on Motorways After Deadly M-9 Crash

Federal Minister Abdul Aleem Khan has announced strict new vehicle safety regulations for traffic entering Pakistan’s motorways following a deadly crash on the M-9 motorway that raised serious road safety concerns. The new directive makes it mandatory for all vehicles to undergo comprehensive fitness checks before being allowed access to the motorway network.

Under the updated enforcement measures, authorities including the National Highways and Motorway Police will conduct inspections covering tyres, braking systems, lights, and overall mechanical condition. Vehicles found with worn-out or unsafe tyres will be stopped immediately and denied entry. The safety rules apply to all categories of vehicles, including private cars, passenger buses, vans, and heavy trucks, with zero tolerance for negligence.

The government says these stricter motorway safety checks are aimed at reducing traffic accidents, improving vehicle roadworthiness, and protecting lives across Pakistan’s national highway and motorway system.
