The RISE Summer Internship 2026 in Germany offers a fully funded opportunity for undergraduate students in science and engineering to gain hands-on research experience at leading German universities and research institutions. Funded by the German Federal Foreign Office and administered by the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service), the program promotes academic exchange and collaboration between Germany and students from North America, Ireland, and the UK.

Each year, around 300 scholarships are awarded to students who are matched with host institutions based on their academic interests. Participants work under the guidance of doctoral students and researchers, engaging in innovative projects across disciplines like biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering, physics, and earth sciences. The program typically runs for three months during the summer and is conducted entirely in English, eliminating the need for German language proficiency or standardized English tests such as IELTS or TOEFL.

This fully funded internship covers all essential costs, including a monthly stipend of 992 euros, health, accident, and liability insurance, and an international travel allowance. Participants also receive 160 euros in travel support to attend a two-day networking meeting in Heidelberg. The RISE internship may also offer virtual options for those unable to travel.

To be eligible, applicants must have completed at least two years of an undergraduate degree in a relevant field and be enrolled at an accredited university or college in North America, the UK, or Ireland. Candidates are required to submit a complete online application through the RISE database, which includes a curriculum vitae, motivation letter, academic transcript, reference letter, and certificate of enrollment. The selection process involves a ranking period in January 2026, and final placements will be announced by February or March 2026.

The RISE Summer Internship 2026 provides a unique chance for students to participate in international research, explore German culture, and enhance their academic and professional skills in a world-class setting. Applications close on November 30, 2025, and early submission is encouraged for those eager to secure a spot in one of Europe’s most prestigious research internship programs.
