Pakistan Urges Action Against Terror Threats Originating from Afghanistan

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar has called for concrete and verifiable action to prevent the use of Afghan territory for terrorist activities against neighbouring countries, particularly Pakistan. His remarks came at a meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Contact Group on Afghanistan, held alongside the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

Dar voiced serious concern over the presence of terrorist organisations within Afghanistan, highlighting Pakistan's sacrifices in the fight against terrorism. He referenced a recent terrorist attack in Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which resulted in casualties and injuries, describing the incident as a reminder of the ongoing threat from this region.

The Deputy Prime Minister urged the Afghan Taliban to fulfil Afghanistan's international commitments by ending support for terrorist groups and removing restrictions on women and girls that do not align with Islamic and societal norms. He also recommended that Afghan authorities encourage inclusive political governance and support the resettlement of Afghan returnees.

Dar emphasised the need for adequate international funding to address Afghanistan’s humanitarian needs and to foster socio-economic development. Reaffirming Pakistan's stance, he reiterated the country's support for a peaceful and prosperous Afghanistan that maintains good relations with its neighbours.

During the delegation's stay in New York, they engaged in several meetings focused on bilateral relations, regional security, and diplomatic matters. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is also attending the UNGA and is scheduled to address the assembly.

In a separate session, Dar addressed the OIC Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir, thanking the organisation for its support of the Kashmiri people. He criticised actions by India in Jammu and Kashmir, alleging attempts to alter the area's demographic makeup, suppress local leaders and journalists, and limit access for international observers. He further objected to India's approach towards the Indus Waters Treaty, asserting its binding nature and the necessity of upholding international commitments.
