The Karachi administration has extended the ban on motor cab rickshaws across 25 major roads in the city for another two months to ease traffic congestion and improve road safety. The decision, taken on the recommendation of traffic police, is aimed at ensuring smoother traffic flow and reducing accidents on key arteries of Karachi.

According to a notification issued by the Commissioner Karachi under Section 144, the restriction will remain effective from today until February 21, 2026. Under the order, 1+2 and 1+4 motor cab rickshaws are prohibited from operating on the city’s main roads as part of efforts to better manage traffic movement and control rush during peak hours.

The ban applies to several major routes, including Shahrah-e-Faisal, I.I. Chundrigar Road, Shahrah-e-Quaideen, Sher Shah Suri Road, Shaheed-e-Millat Road, Abdullah Haroon Road up to Do Talwar, Shahrah-e-Firdousi, Stadium Road, Sir Shah Suleman Road, and Rashid Minhas Road. Other roads covered under the restriction include Mauripur Road, Shahrah-e-Pakistan, Hub Road, Qaidabad to Landhi 89, University Road, Korangi Road from Qayyumabad to Korangi Crossing, Orangi Road, the Super Highway to Malir Halt, and the Surjani to Sohrab Goth route.

Authorities have warned that strict action will be taken against violators, with police empowered to register cases under Section 144. Officials said the extended ban is part of broader measures to make Karachi’s main roads rickshaw-free, enhance traffic discipline, and improve overall traffic management across the city.
