A delegation from Punjab has met with Chinese satellite company Piesat in Beijing to explore the use of space technology in advancing the province’s agricultural sector. According to a statement released by the company, the discussions focused on potential collaboration in areas such as satellite-based crop monitoring, disaster response, and digital watershed management. The delegation was led by Punjab’s Minister for Agriculture and Livestock, Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani.

This initiative reflects Punjab’s broader strategy to modernize its agriculture sector and boost productivity through the adoption of advanced technologies. As part of this effort, the provincial government has recently launched a 30 billion rupee initiative aimed at promoting high-tech mechanization in farming practices.

The visit builds on growing cooperation between Piesat and Pakistan. Earlier in 2024, Piesat initiated a smart agriculture pilot project in the country and signed an agreement in June to support smart agriculture development. In a significant development last month, the company finalized a 2.9 billion yuan agreement with Pakistan to support the creation of an independent satellite network, further strengthening bilateral cooperation in space-based technologies.
