DIG Traffic Pir Muhammad Shah has announced the installation of 12,000 cameras across Karachi as part of efforts to modernize and improve the city’s traffic management system. Alongside this initiative, a mobile application is set to launch soon, aimed at providing greater convenience to citizens by offering traffic-related updates and services.
Addressing concerns about fines, he clarified that heavier penalties are primarily targeted at larger vehicles due to their greater impact on road conditions and traffic flow. For smaller vehicle drivers, the focus will remain on education and awareness about traffic rules rather than punitive measures.
He also highlighted that encroachments continue to be a major contributor to congestion and disruption on Karachi’s roads, stressing the need for coordinated action to address the issue and ensure smoother traffic movement across the city.
