Pakistan to Build New N-15 Highway from Mansehra to China Border to Boost Tourism and Connectivity

The Pakistani government has announced plans to construct a new N-15 highway that will connect Mansehra to the China border, passing through key northern destinations including Naran, Jalkhad, and Chilas. This strategic route is being developed as an alternative to the Karakoram Highway, aiming to improve connectivity and facilitate smoother year-round travel across the Northern Areas.

The highway is specifically designed to remain accessible during winter months, addressing long-standing travel difficulties in the region caused by snowfall, landslides, and harsh weather conditions. Officials emphasize that the new route will not only enhance transportation safety and efficiency but also unlock the tourism potential of Pakistan’s mountainous areas during off-peak seasons.

During a National Highway Authority (NHA) meeting, Prime Minister Khan directed authorities to finalize feasibility studies and assessment reports for the project. He also instructed planners to incorporate tourism infrastructure along the corridor, including resorts, hotels, lake-view points, shopping centers, and other visitor-friendly amenities to create an integrated tourism experience.

The government has set an ambitious target to complete the N-15 highway within two years. Once operational, the route is expected to stimulate economic activity in the Northern Areas, increase domestic and international tourist arrivals, and support regional trade by providing a reliable connection to China. The project represents a major investment in infrastructure, tourism development, and regional economic growth, reinforcing Pakistan’s commitment to improving accessibility in its northern mountain regions.
