A powerful earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale struck western Turkey on October 28, 2025, with its epicenter located in the Sindirgi district of Balikesir province. The quake occurred at a shallow depth of approximately 5.99 kilometers, intensifying its impact across nearby regions.

Tremors were strongly felt in several major cities, including Istanbul, Bursa, Manisa, and Izmir, prompting widespread panic among residents. The initial quake was followed by multiple aftershocks, further unsettling affected communities.

Authorities reported that three previously damaged buildings and a two-story commercial structure collapsed as a result of the tremors. At least 22 people sustained injuries, mostly caused by panic-related incidents and falls while trying to flee their homes. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported.

In response to the quake, local authorities opened mosques, schools, and sports halls as temporary shelters for residents who chose to remain outdoors amid fears of further aftershocks. Emergency response teams were dispatched to assess structural damage and provide medical assistance.

The Sindirgi region has experienced seismic activity before, with a similar 6.1 magnitude earthquake recorded in August 2025. Experts have urged residents to remain cautious as aftershocks may continue over the coming days.

Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister, Ishaq Dar, extended heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Turkey, expressing solidarity and offering assistance in recovery efforts.

The earthquake serves as another reminder of Turkey’s vulnerability to seismic events, as the country lies along multiple active fault lines that frequently trigger moderate to severe tremors.
