Pakistan has unveiled an ambitious plan to boost its pharmaceutical and medical device exports to $30 billion within the next five years, according to Federal Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal. The strategy includes the rollout of a fast-track licensing system aimed at accelerating the sector’s global competitiveness and streamlining regulatory approvals. The announcement came during a high-level review meeting of the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan, attended by senior officials including the Federal Secretary for Health and the CEO of DRAP.

Currently, Pakistan’s pharmaceutical and medical device exports remain under $1 billion. However, with coordinated efforts involving the Medical Devices Association and key industry stakeholders, the government is aiming for a dramatic transformation of the sector. The health minister emphasized that this target goes beyond numerical value, symbolizing economic resilience and a broader vision to position Pakistan as a significant player in the international healthcare market.

He noted that close monitoring of progress is underway to ensure all regulatory and operational milestones are met, particularly in relation to compliance with the requirements of major global trading blocs. Regular follow-up meetings will be held to evaluate performance, sustain momentum, and maintain consistency in the execution of this export-focused initiative. The goal is to develop Pakistan’s pharmaceutical industry into a robust, innovation-driven sector capable of competing in high-value global markets.
