Germany Introduces Opportunity Card Allowing Skilled Pakistanis to Work Without Pre-Arranged Job

1 14

Germany has introduced a new pathway for skilled Pakistani professionals to seek employment without needing a pre-arranged job offer. Through the Opportunity Card system, eligible applicants can stay in Germany for up to 12 months to search for work and are permitted to take on part-time jobs of up to 20 hours per week during this period.

Eligibility for the Opportunity Card is determined through a six-point assessment that evaluates language proficiency, educational qualifications, work experience, technical skills, age, and any previous stay in Germany. Applicants must also demonstrate sufficient financial means, with proof of at least €1,091 per month to cover living expenses.

Required documents include verified language certificates, academic degrees, employment records, bank statements, and identification papers. The application process is fully online via the German Federal Foreign Office’s digital portal.

Once approved, candidates receive the Opportunity Card and can travel to Germany, where they are responsible for arranging accommodation, health insurance, and local registration before starting their job search. Officials note that proficiency in German significantly improves applicants’ chances of securing employment, making language skills a key factor in the selection process.
