Army Chief Asim Munir Visits Peshawar, Vows to Defeat Terrorism

Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir visited the Corps Headquarters in Peshawar on Tuesday, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

During his visit, Field Marshal Munir received a comprehensive briefing on the current security landscape in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, ongoing counterterrorism operations, border management measures, and the operational readiness of troops stationed in the province.

The army chief expressed appreciation for the dedication and professionalism of officers and troops, highlighting their ongoing commitment to the security of the nation. He directed formations to maintain vigilance and the highest degree of operational preparedness.

Field Marshal Munir emphasised the unwavering resolve of the armed forces, strengthened by national support, to combat terrorism and secure lasting peace and stability in the country.

He honoured the fallen by laying a floral wreath at Yadgar-e-Shuhada and offering Fateha, declaring that the sacrifices of those who died defending Pakistan and fighting terrorism will always be remembered.

The visit occurred shortly after a deadly attack on Kohat's old Police Lines, which resulted in 22 deaths and led to an extensive clearance operation by police, security personnel, and the Pakistan Army. Eight militants were killed during the operation, according to officials.

Recent intelligence-based ground operations and airstrikes have been launched by Pakistan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and along the border with Afghanistan, targeting militant hideouts, as stated by the Ministry of Information. Security reports indicate increased militant activity concentrated in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, with these provinces accounting for nearly all violence-related fatalities during the second quarter of 2026.
