The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has completed the installation of surveillance cameras in 18 districts of Punjab, with a report on the progress submitted to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. The authority has assured that camera installation across all districts will be finished by December 31, as part of a phased expansion of the province’s Safe Cities initiative.
The project is being implemented in multiple phases, with the first phase costing Rs 5.18 billion and the second phase projected at Rs 5.64 billion. Modern surveillance and security systems are being installed at a rapid pace, aimed at enhancing public safety and crime prevention across the province.
Punjab’s government had previously approved the expansion of Safe City cameras to 19 cities, including Lodhran, Bahawalnagar, Jhelum, Vehari, Layyah, Taunsa, Chiniot, and Toba Tek Singh. Around 5,000 cameras are expected to be installed in these areas. The first phase of installations has already begun in Sheikhupura, Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Gujrat, and Gujranwala.
In addition to public cameras, the Safe Cities Authority has mapped 2.5 million private cameras across Punjab to further strengthen surveillance and support law enforcement efforts. Safe City projects in Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Gujranwala are nearing completion, marking significant progress in the province’s efforts to modernize security infrastructure and improve crime prevention measures.
