The CRASSH Visiting Fellowships are full-time, fully funded fellowships with a minimum duration of nine weeks. During the fellowship period, participants are provided with desk space and computer access and enjoy full access to the University of Cambridge’s libraries, collections, and academic events. Fellows are encouraged to actively engage with researchers at CRASSH and across the university, creating meaningful academic exchanges. The fellowship aims to strengthen global research partnerships, with the expectation that these visits will lead to long-term collaborations and future academic exchanges beyond the residency period.
Applications are welcomed from scholars working in a wide range of disciplines within the arts, humanities, and social sciences. These include anthropology, archaeology, art history, digital humanities, ecology, environmental studies, geography, history, philosophy, medical humanities, museum studies, sociology, and science and technology studies. Each fellow is expected to share their research as part of the program. The fellowship is jointly hosted by CRASSH and the Legacies of Enslavement Initiative, and fellows may also take part in public engagement and outreach activities organised by the initiative during their stay.
To be eligible for the University of Cambridge CRASSH Visiting Fellowships 2026, applicants must currently hold a position at a higher education or research institution based in the Global South, with at least a 50 percent employment contract. The Global South is defined as countries listed by the OECD as eligible for Official Development Assistance. Applicants must have completed their PhD at least five years before the application deadline and should have sufficient spoken English proficiency to actively participate in academic discussions. The fellowship is fully residential, meaning fellows must remain in Cambridge for the full nine-week period. Fellows are also expected to participate in the Research Practice seminar at CRASSH and collaborate with other fellows to design and deliver a joint event related to the fellowship theme, including presenting their own research. Some preparatory coordination for this event will take place online before the residency begins.
In addition to travel, accommodation, and visa support, fellows benefit from free access to Wolfson College facilities, including the library, gym, and social spaces, and may participate in college activities. After completing the residency, fellows continue as part of a nine-month digital fellowship, allowing ongoing access to selected University of Cambridge online events and resources.
