Pakistan Railways has announced the launch of a special tourist train service aimed at promoting travel and showcasing the unique culture and landscapes of the Thar Desert. The initiative is designed to encourage domestic tourism by offering travelers a carefully planned journey that combines scenic rail travel with cultural and recreational experiences in one of Pakistan’s most distinctive regions.
The tourist train will depart from Karachi Cantonment Station and travel through Chhor before reaching Khokhrapar Zero Point, allowing passengers to witness vast desert views, rural settlements, and the traditional lifestyle of the area along the route. The journey has been structured as a two-day experience to give travelers ample time to enjoy both the travel and the destination.
Upon arrival in Chhor, passengers will take part in an overnight stay featuring camping arrangements in the desert. The program includes bonfires, live music, and a communal dinner, creating an immersive cultural atmosphere. For those preferring more comfort, optional accommodation at local guest houses will also be available. These activities are intended to give visitors a close look at Thar’s traditions, hospitality, and serene nighttime desert environment.
On the second day, the train will continue its journey toward Khokhrapar Zero Point. Breakfast will be served onboard, after which passengers will be given time to explore nearby local attractions, interact with residents, and capture the unique scenery of the border region. Following the sightseeing segment, the train will begin its return journey to Karachi, concluding the tour.
According to Pakistan Railways, the special tourist train service will commence on December 20. Officials say the initiative is part of broader efforts to revive rail-based tourism, promote lesser-known destinations, and create new travel experiences that highlight Pakistan’s cultural and geographical diversity.
