Pakistan recorded a historic high in passport issuance in 2025, with a total of 5,572,013 passports issued nationwide, according to data from the Directorate of Passports and Immigration. The achievement reflects major improvements in administrative efficiency and service delivery within the passport system.

Officials said the milestone was reached under the leadership of the Director General of Passports, following directives from the Prime Minister and the Interior Minister to modernize operations and clear long-standing backlogs. The introduction of modern printing technology played a key role in accelerating passport production and improving overall processing speed.

Of the total passports issued, 3,275,263 were in the normal category, 1,839,487 were processed under the urgent category, and 276,789 were issued through the fast-track service. Extended 24-hour services at passport offices across the country further contributed to faster processing and improved accessibility for citizens.

The growing demand for e-passports also supported smoother workflows and reduced delays, marking a significant step toward the modernization of Pakistan’s passport system. These reforms have enhanced efficiency, reduced waiting times, and improved service quality for citizens nationwide.
