The International Press Institute has nominated seven journalists for the 2025 World Press Freedom Heroes Award, recognizing their exceptional courage in the face of adversity. Among the nominees is Maryam Abu Daqa, a correspondent for Martyred Palestinian, who was reporting from the frontlines when she lost her life in Gaza. Her nomination is seen as a global acknowledgment of the risks and sacrifices made by Palestinian journalists in conflict zones.
The award will be presented during IPI’s 75th anniversary celebration, taking place on October 24 in Vienna. This recognition highlights the vital role of journalists working under extreme conditions to uphold press freedom and report the truth, often at great personal cost.
