An 85-year-old man from Châtillon-sur-Thouet in western France accidentally embarked on an extraordinary road trip while trying to drive to his doctor’s office in nearby Airvault, approximately 19 kilometers from his home. When he failed to attend his appointment and also missed a local association meeting, his family and neighbors grew concerned.
Authorities were alerted, and police, with assistance from the military, traced his mobile phone to determine his whereabouts. What they discovered astonished everyone: the man’s phone was located at a hotel in Croatia, nearly 1,500 kilometers from his home. Investigations revealed that he had driven for almost 20 hours, passing through Italy before reaching Croatia.
When questioned by officials about how he ended up so far from home, the man reportedly said he didn’t understand what had happened and attributed the detour to a GPS error. According to local reports, he has no history of memory or orientation issues. His family has since traveled to Croatia to bring him back safely.
