Pakistan has made significant strides in trade and educational cooperation with Tajikistan, driven by initiatives from the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC). As part of these efforts, Pakistan is set to export 143,000 tons of halal meat to Tajikistan, valued at $14.5 million, marking a major step in expanding bilateral trade and fostering regional economic integration. Officials project that with effective trade facilitation measures, overall trade between the two countries could reach $300 million, creating new opportunities for economic collaboration.

In addition to trade, Pakistan and Tajikistan have formalized educational cooperation through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that promotes the exchange of students and teachers, further strengthening cultural and academic ties between the two nations.

This development follows Pakistan’s recent international collaborations, including agreements with Brazil to enhance the livestock, dairy, and meat sectors. These partnerships highlight Pakistan’s growing focus on strategic global alliances in key industries.

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has prioritized the growth of Pakistan’s halal meat sector, approving the Halal Meat Export Policy and directing the preparation of a comprehensive three-year strategy to boost exports. During a meeting on meat export policy and sectoral reforms, the prime minister emphasized the importance of a coordinated approach involving federal ministries and provincial governments to expand Pakistan’s share in halal meat markets both regionally and globally.

He instructed the committee responsible for enhancing halal meat exports to submit actionable proposals aimed at improving livestock production, cold storage facilities, and other related infrastructure. Additionally, authorities have been directed to adopt measures that ensure halal meat production aligns with international standards, enhancing competitiveness with regional producers.

These steps reflect Pakistan’s broader strategy to strengthen its position in global halal meat markets while deepening economic and educational ties with key international partners.
