The federal government is planning to establish a dedicated University Town in Islamabad to provide international-standard education facilities for students from across Pakistan. Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi announced the initiative during a ceremony at Quaid-i-Azam University, noting that the concept is part of the upcoming Islamabad Vision 2027 and will be formally unveiled soon.

The proposed University Town will be designed to attract students nationwide, offering modern academic, research, and residential facilities aligned with global standards. The project aims to strengthen higher education in the federal capital and position Islamabad as a hub for quality learning.

Speaking about Quaid-i-Azam University, the minister emphasized its central role in the city’s academic identity, stating that Islamabad remains incomplete without the institution. He highlighted that higher education will play a key role in shaping the capital’s future development.

The minister also expressed concerns over the university’s main entrance, describing it as inadequate for an institution of its stature. The Capital Development Authority will be directed to redesign and beautify the entrance, while the existing auditorium will be upgraded into a state-of-the-art facility to meet modern requirements.

Regarding land and encroachments, the minister reiterated the government’s clear policy on public land, warning that illegal occupations should be vacated voluntarily and that operations against encroachments will continue across Islamabad. Any illegal constructions within the 1,709 acres of Quaid-i-Azam University land will be removed. The minister also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the Prime Minister’s laptop scheme and emphasized Quaid-i-Azam University’s significance in national education policy.
