Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has announced a major oil and gas discovery at the Baragzai X-01 (Slant) well in the Nashpa Block of District Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The well, drilled to a depth of 5,170 meters, penetrated 187 meters of the Jurassic-age Datta Formation and is producing around 4,100 barrels of oil per day alongside 10.5 million standard cubic feet of gas daily.
The presence of hydrocarbons was confirmed through a cased-hole Drill Stem Test (DST-02), which validated the productivity of the formation. Earlier testing in the Kingriali Formation at the same well had already yielded successful results, highlighting the potential of the Nashpa Block. OGDCL operates the exploration license with a 65% working interest, while Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) holds 30% and Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL) retains a 5% carried interest.
This latest discovery is expected to enhance Pakistan’s hydrocarbon reserves and play a key role in easing the country’s energy supply-demand gap. By adding both oil and gas to domestic production, the find strengthens the nation’s energy security and supports ongoing efforts to reduce reliance on imports.
