Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has announced a major oil and gas discovery at its Baragzai X-01 (Slant) exploratory well located in the Nashpa Block of Kohat district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The company reported the findings to both the Pakistan Stock Exchange and the London Stock Exchange, highlighting the well’s initial production of 2,280 barrels per day (BPD) of oil and 5.6 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas, with a wellhead flowing pressure of 2,400 psi through a 32/64″ choke.
This discovery represents the first successful extraction from the Kingriali Formation in the Nashpa Block. OGDCL operates the Nashpa Exploration License with a 65% working interest, in partnership with Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) holding 30% and Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL) carrying a 5% interest.
The Baragzai X-01 (Slant) well was spud-in on December 24, 2024, and drilled to a total depth of 5,170 meters, targeting the Kingriali Formation. During drilling, the well encountered a 90-meter-thick hydrocarbon-bearing interval of Triassic age. Following encouraging hydrocarbon indications and analysis of open hole wireline logs, a cased hole drill stem test (DST) was successfully carried out, confirming commercial viability.
OGDCL emphasized that this discovery de-risks further deep exploration in the region and contributes to reducing Pakistan’s energy supply-demand gap by increasing domestic hydrocarbon reserves. The company noted that the find will bring economic benefits to OGDCL, its joint venture partners, and support national energy security by enhancing indigenous oil and gas production. This milestone underscores OGDCL’s ongoing exploration efforts and its role in strengthening Pakistan’s energy sector.
