The district administration has temporarily closed the Murree Expressway entrance from Phulgara Toll Plaza to Murree for general traffic due to heavy snowfall, according to the National Highway and Motorway Police (NHMP). The restriction specifically affects vehicles heading toward Murree, while the N-75 highway remains accessible for local residents and emergency services. Authorities have strongly advised the public to avoid non-essential travel to the hill station until conditions improve.
Murree’s administration and traffic police have implemented extensive preparations for the busy winter season, particularly around the New Year. A special traffic plan has been finalized for New Year’s night, which includes canceling leaves for traffic wardens and deploying additional personnel to manage congestion and ensure road safety.
Authorities have also issued weather and travel advisories, noting that rain and snowfall are expected to continue in Murree and surrounding Galiyat areas through early January. Visitors are instructed to equip vehicles with tire chains, maintain full fuel tanks, and strictly follow directions from traffic officials.
These measures are part of ongoing efforts to balance accessibility with safety in one of Pakistan’s most popular hill station destinations. Compliance with advisories remains critical for both residents and tourists to reduce risks associated with winter weather and maintain smooth traffic flow during peak tourist periods.
