An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) immigration wing at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport has been reassigned from frontline duties to oversee hygiene and pest control, according to official orders and airport sources. ASI Munawar Mehdi has been posted to the office of the Deputy Director of Immigration and designated as “admin in-charge” for washroom cleanliness, sewerage maintenance, and pest monitoring within the FIA immigration area.
Under the order, Mehdi is responsible for supervising the cleanliness of all washrooms used by staff and passengers, overseeing pest-control operations in sewerage and washroom lines linked to the immigration and Deputy Director’s offices, and submitting hourly signed reports detailing facility conditions. He is also tasked with identifying washrooms and sewerage routes frequented by rats and other pests that disrupt operations.
Airport officials noted that Mehdi’s reassignment follows an internal FIA inquiry recommending that he should no longer serve at immigration check-posts. Acting on the inquiry, the FIA removed him from clearance counters and assigned him to an administrative role attached to the Deputy Director’s office, a move officials said aligns with the inquiry’s findings.
