Intense fog has engulfed large parts of Punjab, resulting in severely reduced visibility and prompting the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to issue a three-day alert for the region, ARY News reported on Saturday. The dense fog has led authorities to close several key sections of the country’s motorway network to ensure safety.
Motorway M-2, connecting Lahore to Islamabad, and M-3, running from Lahore to Multan, have been closed due to hazardous foggy conditions, according to a spokesperson for the Motorways. Other affected sections include M-4 from Faisalabad to Multan, M-5 from Multan to Zahir Pir, and M-11 between Lahore and Sialkot.
The NDMA warned that South and Central Punjab will continue to experience thick fog over the next three days, with major districts such as Lahore, Jhang, Multan, Khanewal, Mian Channu, Sahiwal, Okara, Pak Pattan, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Lodhran, and Vehari likely to be heavily affected. Foggy conditions are also expected in areas around Sukkur in upper Sindh and in Islamabad during the night and morning hours.
Motorways Police have advised drivers to exercise extreme caution, emphasizing the use of fog lights while traveling and maintaining reduced speeds, as limited visibility increases the risk of traffic accidents. Travelers are urged to stay updated on road closures and weather conditions before setting out.
