The Australia Awards Fellowships 2026, introduced by the Australian Government, provide a unique opportunity for skilled professionals from developing countries to enhance their expertise through practical experience, leadership development, and international collaboration. This fully funded program focuses on professional growth rather than academic degrees and aims to build sustainable partnerships between Australia and participating nations.
The fellowship supports short-term professional development programs lasting from two to fifty-two weeks. Participants engage in hands-on training in Australia or partner countries, gaining exposure to global best practices. Financial assistance includes round-trip airfare, accommodation, visa expenses, living allowance, health insurance, training costs, and access to Australian experts and institutions.
The fellowship targets key development areas such as climate action and renewable energy, public health and wellbeing, gender equality and social inclusion, the digital economy and cybersecurity, maritime and blue economy initiatives, as well as infrastructure and connectivity.
Applicants must be citizens and residents of eligible developing countries and at least eighteen years of age. Those holding Australian or New Zealand citizenship or permanent residency are not eligible. Applications must be submitted by an Australian host organization in collaboration with a partner institution in the applicant’s country; individuals cannot apply independently. Eligible professionals should be employed, possess relevant work experience, and be available to participate in the program’s full duration without accompanying dependents.
Applications open on 3 November 2025 and close on 16 January 2026 at 11:59 pm AEDT. Fellowship activities will take place between September 2026 and March 2028, with successful applicants notified from July 2026. Interested professionals are encouraged to begin by identifying an Australian host organization, forming a partnership with a local counterpart, and preparing a comprehensive professional development proposal that aligns with shared priorities and goals. This fellowship offers a transformative opportunity to strengthen leadership skills and drive meaningful change across global communities.
