The Pakistani-American community warmly celebrated the historic victory of New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani, marking his achievement as the first Muslim and South Asian to lead the United States’ largest city. A special reception was hosted at the home of Dr. Ijaz Ahmad, chairman of the American Pakistani Public Affairs Committee, where community leaders, activists, and supporters gathered to honor the 34-year-old progressive politician after his landmark election win.

During the event, Mamdani expressed deep gratitude to the community, acknowledging that their unwavering support long before the campaign gained momentum played a vital role in his success. He reflected on his journey from serving in the New York State Assembly to becoming mayor-elect and reaffirmed his commitment to uniting New Yorkers from all backgrounds as he prepares to take office on January 1, 2026.

Mamdani praised the Pakistani-American community for standing by him throughout his political career, describing their solidarity as a powerful source of encouragement in building a more inclusive, representative, and equitable city.

Dr. Ijaz Ahmad congratulated the incoming mayor, highlighting his inspiring approach to leadership and the hope he brings to immigrant families across New York. He emphasized that Mamdani’s win symbolizes progress for communities who have long felt overlooked and celebrated the milestone on behalf of the broader Pakistani-American diaspora.

Former APPAC Youth Wing president Arsal Ijaz also recognized Mamdani’s close relationship with Pakistani-American youth, noting that his leadership has motivated young people to engage more actively in civic life and public service.

The gathering was one of the first community celebrations for the newly elected mayor, underscoring the strong connections Mamdani has built within New York’s immigrant communities as he prepares to assume office and shape the city’s future.
