UK Records Hottest and Sunniest Year Ever in 2025 as Global Temperatures Continue Rising

The United Kingdom experienced its hottest and sunniest year on record in 2025, surpassing the previous peak set in 2022, according to the Met Office. The average annual temperature reached 10.09°C, marking only the second time since 1884 that temperatures have exceeded 10°C.

Climate experts note that four of the last five years now rank among the warmest ever recorded in the UK, highlighting a clear trend linked to human-induced global warming. Extreme weather events have become more frequent worldwide, reflecting the broader impact of rising global temperatures.

On a global scale, 2025 is projected to be the second- or third-warmest year ever, following 2024, which remains the hottest year on record. These trends underscore the accelerating effects of climate change and the urgent need for global climate action.
